Aconcagua

ast week a team of eight climbers climbed
L to the top of Mount Aconcagua in the
Andes. However, while they were climbing
down, something terrible happened. The
weather changed.

‘We were climbing down when I saw a
snowstorm coming,’ says Jim Thorne, the
climb leader. ‘It’s every climber’s nightmare.’
He wanted to get his team back to base
camp quickly but it was very difficult.
‘everyone was tired and cold and was
walking very slowly. Don’t forget we were
carrying backpacks,’ says Thorne.

They arrived at base camp two days later.
‘When I saw base camp, I was very happy.
When I looked back and saw that there were
only six of us instead of eight, I couldn’t believe
