the castle is a building called the Jewel House. This is where

visitors can fi nd the Crown Jewels, a collection of valuable
items including crowns, jewellery, expensive clothing, golden
plates and other treasure.
Many of the items are historical pieces, but some are much
newer and are still used today. One of the most important
pieces in the collection is the Imperial State Crown, which
was made in 1937 and is still worn once a year. It contains
many expensive jewels, including 2,868 diamonds. One of 1.
these is a huge diamond called Cullinan II. Cullinan II is part
of the famous Cullinan diamond that was found in South 2.
Africa in 1905. This diamond was so huge that it was broken
into nine smaller pieces of diamond. Cullinan I, the biggest
piece and also the biggest diamond of its kind in the world,
is part of the Crown Jewels too. Visitors can see it at the top
of a sceptre in the collection.
The Crown Jewels are an important part of the UK’s history, 3.
