I was too young to have one. Then, one day, my mother
gave me a bag from my favourite shop. I love
checking out new electronic devices on its

but when I looked inside, I couldn’t believe my
eyes! It was a smartphone!
For the next few days, I was very busy. I downloaded some
of my favourite songs and some games, but the irst thing
I downloaded was an app that I could use to chat with
my friends! I also tried the camera! The pictures were all
incredible. The games I downloaded were really cool too, and
I played them whenever I had free time. However, my parents
soon started to complain. They told me that I was always
playing games and looking at my screen. Of course, I couldn’t
understand what the problem was! I still did my homework
every day and tidied my room at the weekend.
One Sunday morning, I texted my best friend, Brad, asking him
something about our science homework, but he never replied. The
next day at school, Brad wasn’t speaking to me. I was really upset.
Two days later, my mum told me she saw Brad and his mum at the
supermarket. Brad was angry at me because I didn’t go to his big
football match the week before. At that moment, I realised I forgot
about it. My parents were right! I was spending too much time
playing games on my phone. I let Brad down, and I wasn’t a good
friend. I went to Brad’s house and told him I was really sorry. He said
it was OK, and I promised never to let my smartphone make me
forget what is really important again!
